Run your football group from Claude Code or Codex
Start a squad, see who’s playing, pick fair teams and enter the score, without leaving your terminal. Your AI agent does the organiser’s jobs; you just ask.
Connect Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http squadcard https://squadcard.app/api/mcpThen type /mcp in Claude Code, pick squadcard and sign in. Your browser opens, you sign in to Squadcard and press Allow.

What it feels like
An example. The names are made up; the steps are what the tools do.
Before your first request
- Make your player card. If you’ve never played in a Squadcard squad, make one at squadcard.app/card: your name, position, age and the terms, a minute in your browser. An agent can’t do this step for you, and it will send you there if you skip it.
- Joining a squad is free. Give your agent an invite link and it tells you which squad it’s for before joining.
- Starting a squad follows the same rule as the website. Joining a squad, voting, your card and stats are always free. Starting a new squad needs Squad Pro (7 days free on the yearly plan), and one Squad Pro covers the whole squad. Squads started before 5 October 2026 stay free. Pricing.
Safe by design
A connected agent gets a short list of football jobs and nothing else. The limit is enforced on our side, so it holds whatever the agent is told to do.
It can never
- See how anyone voted. Only totals exist outside the ballot.
- Take, move or mark money.
- Buy, cancel or change a subscription.
- Remove players, change photos or close a squad.
- Delete your account, or sign you up.
You stay in charge
- You sign in yourself, on a page that says what you’re allowing.
- It’s set up to ask before starting a squad, joining one or saving a score.
- Disconnect it any time in your account, under AI agents.
- Invite and vote links come to you, to post in your own group chat.
What it can do
With names you give it
Quick sums. They don’t touch your squads.
make_fair_teamsTwo balanced teams from a list of names, keepers on opposite sides.make_fixturesA round-robin for 3 to 16 teams, where everyone plays everyone.suggest_team_namesTeam names by theme, or club-style names from a word like your town or pub.
With your squads
These read or change the squads on your Squadcard account.
list_squadsThe squads you're in.create_squadStarts a squad with you as organiser and gives you the invite link.join_squadJoins a squad from an invite link you give it, after telling you which squad the link is for.get_squadA squad's invite link, its players, the next game and who's in.set_gameWhen and where you play, how often, the pitch cost and the player limit.answer_gameSays you're in, maybe or out for the next game.pick_teamsTwo balanced teams from whoever is in for the next game.reshuffle_teamsAnother fair split of the same players.enter_resultSaves the score, which opens voting, and gives you the vote link.get_matchA match's teams, score, how many have voted, and the result once voting closes.
Other ways to connect
Codex
codex mcp add squadcard --url https://squadcard.app/api/mcp
codex mcp login squadcardAny other MCP client
Point it at the server address above. It will send you to sign in the first time.
No browser where your agent runs? Use a key
Make a key in your account under AI agents, keep it in an environment variable, and send it as a bearer token.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http squadcard https://squadcard.app/api/mcp \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $SQUADCARD_AGENT_KEY"Codex, in ~/.codex/config.toml
[mcp_servers.squadcard]
url = "https://squadcard.app/api/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "SQUADCARD_AGENT_KEY"Things to try
- “Make two fair teams from: Dan, Priya, Kofi, Sam, Ollie, Aisha, Tom, Lewis, Marek (keeper), Jay (keeper).”
- “We’ve got six teams for Saturday. Make the fixtures.”
- “Start a 7-a-side squad called Thursday Sevens and give me the invite link.”
- “Here’s the invite link for my mate’s game. Which squad is it? Join it.”
- “Put me down as in for Tuesday.”
- “Who’s in for Tuesday? Pick the teams.”
Prefer to click? The same tools are on the site: free tools, and the organiser’s first week.
If something doesn’t work
- Your agent doesn’t show Squadcard’s tools
- Check the server is added and signed in. In a terminal,
claude mcp listshould show squadcard as connected. “Needs authentication” means run/mcpand sign in. If you added it while Claude Code was open, restart Claude Code. - “This account has no player card yet”
- Make one at squadcard.app/card, signed in with the same account, then ask again.
- “Starting a squad needs Squad Pro”
- That’s the website’s own rule, not the agent’s. See pricing, or join a squad instead, which is always free.
- Your squads are missing
- You probably signed in with a different account from the one you play on (Google here, Apple there). Disconnect it in your account and connect again with the right one.
- It stopped working
- The connection was disconnected, or the key was removed. Connect again, or make a new key.
Questions
Does Squadcard have an MCP server?
Yes. It's at https://squadcard.app/api/mcp, over HTTP. An agent that speaks the Model Context Protocol connects to that address and signs you in to Squadcard in your browser.
Do I need an account?
Yes. The first time your agent uses Squadcard, it opens a browser page where you sign in and say yes. After that it stays connected until you disconnect it.
What can a connected agent do?
Only what's listed on this page: read your squads, start a squad, join one from an invite link you give it, say if you're in for a game, set the game, pick teams and enter a score. It can't see votes, mark payments, buy anything, change your photo or delete anything.
Can the agent see how people voted?
No. Nobody can: not the agent, not the organiser. Only totals are ever shown.
How do I switch it off?
Open your account, find AI agents, and disconnect it. It stops working at once.
My agent can't open a browser. Can I still use it?
Yes. Make a key in your account under AI agents and give it to the agent as a bearer token. A key has the same limits as signing in.
Can an agent sign me up?
No. The first time, you make your player card yourself in a browser, at squadcard.app/card, because that's where you confirm your age and accept the terms. It takes a minute and doesn't need a squad. After that an agent can start squads for you.
Which agents does it work with?
It's checked with Claude Code, and set up for Codex from Codex's own documentation. Any other client that speaks the Model Context Protocol over HTTP and can sign in with OAuth, or send a bearer token, should work too. It's one address, with nothing to install.
Squadcard is an app for football groups that play every week: who's in, fair teams, and ratings from your mates.
