Squadcard

Team generator

Fair, balanced football teams in seconds. Type who’s playing, say roughly how good each is, tick the keepers, and get two even sides for 5-a-side, 7-a-side or Sunday league. Free, no sign-up.

How good is everyone?Rough is fine. Tick the keepers and they’ll be split up.

Names show up here as you type them.

How it picks fair teams

Random teams feel fair until the two best players end up together and it’s 9–2 by half time. This generator balances on how good people are, not on luck:

  • Ratings. Everyone gets a number from the level you pick, and the two sides’ totals come out as close as they can be.
  • Keepers split. Tick GK and the keepers go to opposite sides, so nobody plays a whole game without one.
  • Sizes level. Two sides of the same size, or within one player when you’re an odd number, with the smaller side given the stronger players.
  • Bibs or non-bibs. The teams come out named, ready to paste into the group chat.

For any size of game

5-a-side on a Tuesday, 7-a-side on a Sunday, 11-a-side when everyone turns up. Anything from 4 to 30 players, split into two. It works the same for walking football, five-a-side leagues’ friendlies, work football and the kids’ training session.

Fair every week, not just tonight

The hard part isn’t splitting the list, it’s knowing who’s actually good. In Squadcard, everyone rates everyone else out of 10 after each game. Only totals are ever shown, so it stays honest, and the ratings come from the people who were there. The app picks the teams from those ratings, and every player gets a card that moves with their form.

Questions

Is the team generator free?

Yes. No sign-up, no app needed. Your list stays in your browser, so it's still there next week.

How does it make the teams fair?

Each player gets a rating from how good you say they are. The generator tries thousands of splits and keeps the one where the two sides' total ratings are closest, with the keepers on opposite sides and the sizes within one player.

What if we have an odd number of players?

One side gets the extra player, and the generator makes up for it: the side with fewer players gets the stronger ones, as close to level as your numbers allow.

Does it work for 5-a-side, 7-a-side and 11-a-side?

Yes, any game with two teams and between 4 and 30 players: 5-a-side, 6-a-side, 7-a-side, 8-a-side, 11-a-side, walking football, Sunday league training.

Can I get different teams with the same players?

Tap Reshuffle. You get another fair split of the same players, so it's not the same two sides every week.

How do I keep the teams fair every week without guessing ratings?

That's what Squadcard is for. After each game everyone rates everyone else out of 10, so the ratings come from the people you play with, not from one person's guess, and the teams get fairer every week.
