Getting today's keeper…

How to take a penalty

  • Pick your side early: decide before you step up, and don’t change your mind on the run-up.
  • Low and hard to the corners: the hardest shots for any keeper to reach.
  • Don’t blast it high: the harder you hit it, the easier it is to sky it over the bar.
  • Watch the keeper: sometimes they lean one way before you shoot. Early on they mean it; by the last kicks it might be a bluff.
  • Down the middle works: when the keeper dives, the centre is empty. It just scores less.

Questions

Is the penalty shootout free?

Yes. Anyone can play, no sign-up. Sign in with Squadcard to save your score and see where you finish against your squad.

Why is the keeper the same for everyone?

Each day's keeper is decided by the date, so everyone faces the same dives. That's what makes the leaderboard fair: same keeper, best kicks win.

Can I practise?

As much as you like. Practice rounds use a random keeper and aren't saved. Today's shootout counts once a day.

How do squads compete?

If you're in a Squadcard squad, your saved score goes on your squad's board for the day and the week. The best weekly total becomes the squad's penalty king, shown on the squad page.

Squadcard is an app for football groups that play every week: who's in, fair teams, and ratings from your mates. Start a squad or try the free team generator.
