Goal sizes by age (England)

England Football's recommended goal sizes for each age group, in feet, width by height:

  • Under-7 (3v3): 4 by 2.5 feet.
  • Under-8 and under-9 (5v5): 12 by 6 feet.
  • Under-10 and under-11 (7v7): 12 by 6 feet.
  • Under-12 and under-13 (9v9): 16 by 7 feet.
  • Under-14 (11v11): 21 by 7 feet.

5-a-side, 7-a-side and futsal goals

  • Adult 5-a-side and 7-a-side: 3 to 5 metres wide (about 10 to 16 feet) and 1.2 to 2 metres high (about 4 to 6.5 feet), under the FA's small-sided laws. Most venues have their own fixed size inside that range.
  • Futsal: 3 metres wide and 2 metres high (about 10 by 6.5 feet).

Pitches to go with them

Each goal size comes with a pitch size: see football pitch sizes, or one format at a time: 5-a-side, 7-a-side, 9-a-side and 11-a-side.

Small goals mean low, accurate shots win. If your group plays on small goals with a keeper who never leaves the line, the rush goalie rule keeps everyone in the game.
