11-a-side pitch size
The Laws of the Game give a full-size pitch a range rather than one size, with fixed markings inside it. The FA recommends one size for adults and smaller ones for youth 11v11.

- The FA recommends 110 by 70 yards for adults, about 100 by 64 metres.

Full-size pitch dimensions
The Laws of the Game set a range, and the touchlines must be longer than the goal lines:
- Length (touchline): 90 to 120 metres (100 to 130 yards).
- Width (goal line): 45 to 90 metres (50 to 100 yards).
- International matches: 100 to 110 metres long (110 to 120 yards) and 64 to 75 metres wide (70 to 80 yards).
- The FA's recommended adult size: 110 by 70 yards (about 100 by 64 metres), or 116 by 76 yards with the run-off.
The markings
- Goal area: lines 5.5 metres (6 yards) from each post, reaching 5.5 metres into the pitch.
- Penalty area: lines 16.5 metres (18 yards) from each post, reaching 16.5 metres into the pitch.
- Penalty mark: 11 metres (12 yards) from the middle of the goal.
- Centre circle: 9.15 metres (10 yards) radius, the distance players stand back at kick-off.
- Corner arc: 1 metre (1 yard) radius, with corner flags at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) high.
- Lines: no wider than 12 centimetres (5 inches).
Goal size and ball
A full-size goal is 7.32 metres between the posts and 2.44 metres from the ground to the bottom of the crossbar: 8 yards by 8 feet, or 24 by 8 feet. The ball is a size 5, 68 to 70 centimetres round and 410 to 450 grams at kick-off.
Youth 11v11 pitch sizes
In England, 11v11 starts at under-14s from the 2026-27 season. England Football's sizes, length by width, without run-off, all with a size 5 ball:
- Under-14s: 82 by 50 metres recommended (about 90 by 55 yards), from 82 by 46 up to 91 by 55 metres. Goals 21 by 7 feet.
- Under-15s and under-16s: 91 by 55 metres recommended (about 100 by 60 yards), from 82 by 46 up to 100 by 64 metres. Goals 24 by 8 feet.
- Under-17s upwards: the adult size, 110 by 70 yards.
Run-off and space
The FA's rules recommend at least 3 yards (or 3 metres) of clear grass round the pitch, and 6 yards between two pitches side by side so spectators can stand there.
On the FA's recommended 100 by 64 metre pitch, each of 22 players has about 290 square metres, against 175 on the biggest five-a-side pitch. If your friends' game only gets 14 or 16 on a full-size pitch, play across half of it instead: a 7-a-side pitch of 50 to 60 metres by 30 to 40 fits inside that half.
The 11-a-side team generator splits 22 into two fair sides, and the lineup builder draws the shape.
