Best 5-a-side apps

TeamSnap vs Heja

Both are team apps with a schedule, messages and a free plan. TeamSnap is built around running a team's season, across many sports and adult leagues too; Heja around one team's communication, with coaches, parents and players in one chat.

  • A weekly game with the same friends: you may want neither. See Squadcard below (we make it).

Which one fits

Choose TeamSnap if you manage a team through a season, or captain one in an adult league, and want the roster, the schedule, jobs to hand out and fees collected in one app. Its free plan covers teams under 15 players; paid plans add availability tracking, bigger rosters and drills.

Choose Heja if you coach one team, especially a youth team, and want the schedule, reminders and the team's chat in one app. It's free for the whole team; paid plans add payment tracking and more.

Or neither: Squadcard

If yours is the same friends playing every week rather than a coached team or a league side, you may not need either. Squadcard is built for that game: who's in from a link, fair teams from the ratings the players give each other, and pitch money tracked with no payment fees. We make it.

Questions

Is TeamSnap or Heja better?

For a team's whole season, with a roster, a schedule, jobs and fees collected in the app, or a side in an adult league, TeamSnap is built around that. For one team, especially a youth team, that wants the schedule, reminders and a chat with the parents in one app, Heja is built around that. Both have a free plan.

Are TeamSnap and Heja free?

TeamSnap has a free plan for teams under 15 players, with scheduling, messaging, assignments and payments; availability tracking is on its paid plans. Heja is free to use, with paid plans that add more, payment tracking among them.

Which is better for adults playing every week?

TeamSnap has pages for adult leagues and team captains; Heja's pages talk mostly about coaches and parents. For one group of friends and one weekly game, an app made for that game (Squadcard is one) gets you who's in, fair teams and ratings from the players.

Can I use Squadcard with TeamSnap or Heja?

Yes. They don't connect, but nothing stops a club or team using TeamSnap or Heja while its weekly kickabout runs in Squadcard. Players join Squadcard from a link, with nothing to install.
