A Heja alternative for your weekly game

Heja is a free app for team communication between coaches, managers, parents and players. If your group is the same friends playing football every week, you might want something built just for that. Squadcard is an app for football groups that play every week: who's in, fair teams, and ratings from your mates.

Heja and Squadcard, side by side

We make Squadcard, so we’re biased. Everything about Heja comes from Heja’s own pages (listed at the bottom), checked on 5 October 2026.

When Heja is the better choice

If you coach a team, especially a youth team where the parents need the schedule, the reminders and a chat in one app, Heja is built for that and it's free for the whole team. Squadcard isn't trying to replace your team's chat.

When Squadcard fits better

  • The same group every week: one squad, one weekly game, 5-a-side to 11-a-side.
  • Fair teams: picked from ratings the players give each other after every game, so they get fairer the longer you play.
  • A reason to come back: player of the match, Team of the Week and a player card that moves with your form, ready to share in the group chat.
  • Money without fees: Squadcard tracks who owes; your players pay you however they already do.
  • Nothing to install for players: they join from a link on any phone.

Moving your group over

Start a squad, set your usual day, time and pitch, and post the invite link in your group chat. Players tap it, pick roughly how good they are, and they’re in. There’s nothing to import: the ratings build up from your games. Want to try the team picking first? The free team generator works without an account.

Questions

Is Squadcard a good Heja alternative?

For a group of friends who play football every week, yes: it's built for exactly that, with fair teams and ratings from the players. For running a whole team, club or league, Heja is likely the better fit.

Is Squadcard free?

Joining a squad, voting, your card and stats are always free. Starting a new squad needs Squad Pro (7 days free on the yearly plan), and one Squad Pro covers the whole squad. Squads started before 5 October 2026 stay free.

Does Squadcard take payments like Heja?

No. Heja tracks payments on its paid plan; Squadcard works out who owes what and keeps track of who's paid, but the money goes between you and your players as it does now. It never passes through Squadcard, so there are no fees.

Do my players need to download an app?

Not for Squadcard. Players join, say if they're in and vote from a link, on any phone, Android included. The organiser can use the website or the iPhone app.

Can I use Squadcard and Heja together?

Yes. Some groups keep their team or club in Heja and run their weekly kickabout in Squadcard. They don't connect to each other.
